Man! Do I love the 80s.
a really corny pic I made of eiji’s infamous hawaiian shirt with crayons
for your headcanon, are eiji and ash in a romantic/sexual relationship and/or are simply ….REALLY close friends? and if so, why?
its definitely romantic, even as a friendship, since they agonize so much about each other.
i feel like ash and shorter know each other better but ash is much more concerned about eiji. eiji doesnt know much about ash even if he cares about him. they arent exactly “close friends”?
as for sexual i dont think so either, it would have taken a lot of time to get to that point comfortably since ash has been sexually abused his whole life. however eiji wasnt trying to use him and didnt want him just for his good looks/body- he genuinely loved and cared for him and ash returned this feeling. this is why it could probably have worked out into a sexual relationship given more time.
i believe the artist made their relationship homoerotic (but not reaching explicitly sexual) because it causes art that is very vague and interesting to wonder, will they or wont they? and it evokes deep feelings of longing between the characters if they are not in an established relationship. you know there sexual tension there but does it mean more? i see my own techniques in yoshida’s artbook drawings.
i havent read banana fish in a long time though.
I believe that Ash wants to project Eiji because of his Innocents and when Eiji offers to have Ash follow him back to Japan that when Ash is free. With the tension that means it is forever going never to break. Like if they were in a sexual relationship than I think the Innocent that Eiji has and the ‘dirt’ that Ash would comflint(sp?)
Even thought it is bittersweet their romance is a classic one.
Found this last night.
I wish someone would say this to me!
